Peace?
I wrote this short poem on 13th April, 1992 and rediscovered it a few days ago. I have no recollection of the incident that prompted me to write it. My best guess is that it was prompted by an act of terrorism in Northern Ireland and the great contradiction that killing and violence would bring about peace.
The image is one that I shot (pun intended) to try and portray the radical difference between the teaching of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and the way the world so often views peacekeeping. If I had tried to take this photograph back home in Ireland it would have landed me in prison, you can’t have a handgun and hollow point ammunition over there - only in America.
Peace
Peace is flowing like a river
Out the barrel of a gun
Spreading fear into all nations
It’s destroying everyone
